Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated December 22, 1960 reads, "Mrs. Iva Montgomery, 12336 Roscoe Blvd., Sun Valley, shows 36-foot-long letter she received to her grand-daughter, Marsha Lee Caris, 9. Mrs. Montgomery received the letter from a niece in Kansas City, Mo. 'She has been telling me every Christmas in cards that she was going to write me a long letter one of these days, but I never thought I'd get anything like this,' she explained. The letter, handwritten on white paper, cost 49 cents to mail. It listed the latest gossip in the family and ended with a recipe for cranberry bread. Her husband works at the Los Angeles Terminal Annex Post Office."
