Description: "Mbozi: Br. Giersch u. Schw. Waldner nähen eine Matratze[.] Erhalten von Br. Giersch 1929." ("Mbozi: Br[other] Giersch and S[ister] Waldner sew a mattress[.] Received from Br[other] Giersch 1929."). Missionary Giersch sews the white cloth while Sister Waldner corrects the grass filling of the uncompleted mattress. An African girl stands beside holding a basket with grass and watching the process.
Ernst Otto Giersch (1878-1946 [1947]) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served from 1906 to 1908 in Mbozi (together with his wife Anna Magdalena, née Seiler) and returned home because of illness. From 1927 to 1929 he again served in Mbozi.
