Description
Warren Harding (left), 34, of West Sacramento, who was the leader of the first team to climb El Capitan. He is demonstrating how he had to lean backwards to climb the last most difficult and overhanging pitch on El Capitan. At right is Wayne Merry, 27, of San Jose. Merry and Harding spent 12 days on the cliff. Harding went on to become one of the most famous rock climbers in the U.S.
