Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking north from bulkhead at foot of 45th Avenue, Los Angeles County. Note no beach here and sea breaking on bulkhead an hour after high tide. This was the result of high tides (6.8 feet and 6.6 feet), accompanied by heavy ground swells and breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Hermosa Beach and Santa Monica along the route of the proposed "Ocean Front Walk" location of State Route 163. The high tide on 25 January occurred at 8:52 A.M. and measured 6.6 feet. This photograph was taken with the ebb tide at 10:10 A.M. Also visible are: oil derricks, buildings, porches, utility poles and lines, ocean. No legible signs.
