Description
Judith Viorst discusses her book, “Necessary Losses: The Loves, Illusions, Dependencies and Impossible Expectations that All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow.” She says she studied at a psychoanalytic institute and talks about great achievement and loss. She begins by saying that babies give up absolute safety from their mothers' wombs when they are born. Topics discussed include: Art Buchwald and his move from foster home to foster home, acquiring a sense of conscious and guilt, "scars on the brain," repetition compulsion, fantasies, and marriage.
