Description
Photo of Florence Hill with blooms in her hand, standing next to a blooming cactus, taller than she. Note on back, "June 1961, Grandpa was fond of photographing the fruits of his garden. I remember this cactus plant at 1350 Sherman. He came to me one day and said he would carve my name-Birdella-on the cactus and plant it; then I could watch it grow. I watched the operation and after a certain passage of time was again escorted to the place where the cactus grew and asked to find my name, or the piece with my name on it. O course i could not and was stricken almost dumb with disappointment and mortification. But it was there. Grandpa showed it to me. Grandma used to put the cactus fruits in salad. B. H. Laughlin."
