The statue of crystalline limestone is of a seated Buddha in virāsana and displaying the dhyāna mudrā. "The half-closed eyes and calm quietude indicate a relaxed composure of the mind befitting a yogic attitude of the great Being." It is considered one of the best preserved and greatest sculpted Buddha statues found in Sri Lanka. Some similarities with Mathura (India) standing Buddha images of the Gupta period include a diaphanous robe and the three ring-like folds of skin around the neck. The face, however, is here ovoid not egg-shaped as in the Mathura image. Height: 1.76 meters.
