Description
Interior of carpenters’ workshop that extends into the distance, the building is open on the right hand side through a series of archways. Work benches are arranged one after the other on the left side, each covered with tools of the trade and wood shavings. Carpenters stand behind the benches looking towards the camera. A finished chaise longue stands to one side. This could be the carpentry at Blantyre in Nyasaland (Malawi) that was established to encourage industry and trade in the area. ❧ This image belongs to an album of mixed photographs collected by Dr. Stevenson and includes images from India, China and Africa.
