Photo of Navajo women spinning and weaving. Mabel Burnside sits at her loom, weaving an intricate pattern for a Navajo blanket, while Zonnie Lee spins the strands of wool on her spinning-stick. The weaver carries the elaborate pattern for the complete work in her head, even as does an artist working with other materials. Both of these Navajo women live under the United States Navy auspices, on "shipboard" in the Indian Hotel, located on the Navy reservation, Yerba Buena Island. Their work is a feature of the Indian Arts and Crafts Exhibit in the Federal building on Treasure Island. Photo dated: June 18, 1978.
