Title supplied by cataloger. Built in 1941 under the Public Works Administration (WPA) program, the75,000 square foot Streamline Moderne Municipal Ferry Building served as the base for an auto ferry which crossed the channel from San Pedro to Terminal Island. The ferry primarily served fishing industry employees and navy personnel. In 1964, when the Vincent Thomas Bridge was completed, the ferry service was discontinued, and the Harbor Department took over the building. After an extensive restoration, the facility became the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. Several men are shown seated inside of the Municipal Ferry Building located at East 6th Street and Sampson Way in San Pedro.
