Photograph of Joan Beckett as Miss Sacramento 1956 standing before a crowd. Beckett, a secretary for the Sierra Nevada Pine Company and the 1955 Maid of California, won the Miss Sacramento Pageant on April 24, the first step toward competing in Miss America. Beckett went on to win the Miss California pageant held on June 23-24 at Santa Cruz. She took part in the Miss America competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 10, but lost to Miss Colorado, Sharon Ritchie. Taken circa 1956.
