Description
Dr. Julian McPhee (President of California State Polytechnic University from 1933-1966) was known as the father of the California State Polytechnic University system and presided over Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, as well as the Pomona (Kellogg) and San Dimas (Voorhis) campuses. From its inception in 1901 to 1966, California State Polytechnic College was one institution. From 1938 to 1966, there were two campuses, the main one in San Luis Obispo and the San Dimas/Pomona campus known most of those years as the Kellogg-Voorhis unit. From 1966 onward the two "Cal Polys" were separate institutions bearing the same abbreviated name. In this interview, Julian discusses his tenure as President and what ultimately led to two separate universities.
