Photograph article dated July 21, 1949 reads, "Walter H. Lentz, hired by Attorney General Fred N. Howser as a private investigator in Howser's $300,000 libel suit against Columnist Drew Pearson, was under bond today on a federal charge of obstructing justice. Federal officials said others were being questioned. A witness in the libel suit, J. Thomas Mulloy told FBI men that Lentz' intermediaries offered him $18,000 to change his story and make it more favorable to Howser. The libel action is a federal court case, since it was filed in the District of Columbia; hence it was the FBI which investigated and arrested Lentz. Bond was fixed at $5000 and Lentz' arraignment was set for next Monday here." Photograph caption reads, "Gang shooting brings tragedy to this Burbank home. Residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Chisam, Dee Davis' parents."; See image #00132718 for additional photo in this series.
