Written on sleeve holding photograph: "Johnie Staggs." Johnie Staggs with Rosalie Nichols opened Ms. Atlas Press a commercial printing operation and bookstore. She also became involved in politics in 1977 when she served as treasurer for the campaign to defeat the Briggs' Anti-Gay School Employees Initiative, Proposition 6. From 1978 to 1981, Staggs co-chaired the Annual Gay Freedom Day Rally in San Jose. See Ted Sahl, "From Community to Closet"; (2002), p. 34.
