Pictured here is aeronaut "Gene" Savage during the summer of 1910 when he performed parachute jumps at 5pm on Sundays. The balloon was inflated on site at Ocean Center Building, and later in Lincoln Park. In this image, a large crowd lines both sides of the pier as Savage floats overhead. During this period, aeronauts often made balloon ascensions, which were very attractive and successful features of fairs and amusement zones. This type of "sky diving" predates airplanes used as entertainment by about a decade. DATE NOTES: Noted on image back. ORIG. IMAGE: 4" x 6" sepia glossy print.
