Photograph caption dated June 7, 1956 reads "Canoga Park High's Gary Heckathorn was voted the player-of-the-year for the Valley League today by the Helms All-Southern California Board of Baseball. Heckathorn was a member of the all-Valley League first team last year as well and was one of the main sparkplugs [sic] in the Hunters' great showing on the diamond this spring."
