Description
A photograph of the 1937 Sacramento High School Symphony Orchestra, composed of senior students and conducted by teacher George von Hagel, visible in the foreground. Von Hagel was a cellist who played with the first orchestra of the KPO radio station in San Francisco. While he began as a member of the original trio, Von Hagel eventually became the orchestra director and conducted radio operas in addition to his regular performances in the late 1920s. He briefly taught at Sacramento City College in addition to teaching at Sacramento High School and continued performing with local symphonies.
