Photograph taken during the 1913 Pomona College Pageant celebrating "the Beginnings of Claremont and Pomona" through a "historical sketch of early life in the San Jose Valley." Pomona students re-enact the arrival of the first buyers to purchase land in Claremont who were accompanied by a "promotion band." Written on the back of the photograph is "promotion band and buyers for sale of lots in Claremont." Stamped on the back in purple ink is "Pierce & Willard Photographers Claremont, - Calif." This photograph was used in the pageant program, "Pomona College Pageant 1913," [Special Collections Call Number XP5.2 H5 1913] on page 50. The caption reads, "Claremont the Beautiful - band and load of purchasers."
