Cameron (striker) Miss Virginia Howe Paul Davis (driver) Florence Baker Alice Hamilton. Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Chernus. Assignment: Douglas strike, Long Beach. Douglas Aircraft Company striker George A. Cameron is applying at the baby sitter desk at strike headquarters for aid. He wants someone to stay with his children while he walks the picket line. Miss Virginia Howe is in charge of baby sitter desk. Strikers leave union headquarters in 'taxi' for picket line at Douglas plant. Driver Paul Davis uses his car and the union's gas, in taxi service, and gets credit for picket line duty. In car left to right: Beatrice Engle Florence Baker and Alice Hamilton. Barber shop at strike headquarters of U.A.W. Aircraft Local 148 where striking Douglas employees get free haircuts and the ladies, beauty treatments. The strike headquarters has been set up at Lakewood Blvd. and Spring Street. The setup includes baby sitting service for mothers walking the picket line grocery orders for strikers in need hot meals taxi service and even free shoe shines. 10,300 are on strike at the plant. In picture, striker Walter Applebee is cutting hair of picket P. J. Simpson, while in next chair Beatrice Engle is giving Mrs. Mildred Chassie a 'hair-do'. Strikers doing picket line duty even get free shoe shines at strike headquarters, Lakewood Blvd. and Spring Street. Here Bob Beldin shines Bill Baker's shoes and gets credit for picket line duty. Strikers who do no picketing are not eligible for relief of any kind from strike committee, explained Chairman Leonard Bushey".
