Republican mural, Sevastopol Street/Falls Road, West Belfast, 1998. Mural painted on side of Sinn Féin offices, iconic image of Bobby Sands, first Hunger Striker to die in 1981. Above and below, phoenix and lark smashing chain, left and right, symbol of United Irishmen, 1798, the harp without the crown but with the cap of liberty, 'Equality, it is now strung and shall be heard'. Image of Sands used throughout Hunger-Strike Campaign; quotes from Sands: 'Everyone, Republican or otherwise has their own particular role to play' '…our revenge will be the laughter of our children'. Underneath - Sands' name in Irish and English: 'Roibeart O Seannasaigh, Bobby Sands, Irish Republican, Revolutionary, Poet, Gaelgeoir, Visionary, 1954-1981'.
