Description
Photograph of an exterior view of two hotels in Ventura, ca.1865. A Spanish hotel made of adboe is pictured in the left foreground, a wide one-story building with a terra cotta tiled roof. Several visitors can be seen lounging on the patio beneath its awnings. In the background right, an American hotel can be seen, two stories tall with a flat roof. The caption beneath the image reads "Showing palm trees in the Mission Garden -- The site now occupied by a Bank -- the 'American Hotel' of 1865 is on the right of the picture". The picture file card identifies this as from a book illustration.
