Photograph caption dated December 4, 1951 reads, "This picture was taken while an actual operation at General Hospital was being televised and viewed in color by 700 doctors at Shrine Auditorium seven miles away. White arrow points to TV camera. Black arrow points to surgery for removal of thyroid gland. The surgeon (front) has a small microphone under his mask and is describing the operation as he works. It is the first such demonstration ever conducted in color in Los Angeles."
