Description
Born January 13, 1909 on the Randall Ranch, Olema, Floyd was the son of Charles (Joe) Longley who was born in Lagunitas. Floyd's family has been the Bolinas area since 1852. Samuel Clark, his maternal grandfather, is profiled in Monroe Fraser's 1880 History of Marin County. His grandfather, George W. Longley, ran the saw mill at the Samuel P. Taylor paper mill and his father ran the butcher shop in Bolinas. Floyd's family at one time owned what is now call Gospel Flats. From 1974 to 1984, Carla Ehat, with partner Anne Kent, and later Genevieve Martinelli, interviewed a broad spectrum of Marin County's long-time residents, from ranchers to politicians, including descendants of early pioneer families. This program was co-sponsored by the Marin County Free Library and the Moya Library in Ross. The resulting archive, consisting of nearly 300 recordings and their corresponding transcriptions, are housed in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Civic Center branch of the Marin County Free Library.
