Description
2008-1089 -- 2008-1090. PHOTO: SAN FRANCISCO: CHURCHES: FIRST BAPTIST View of a single story wood-frame building with two doors and a window in front. Men, women and a young boy are standing in front of the two doors. On back: "Erected July, 1849. The first Protestant Church erected in California, in which the first Free Public School of California, was organized and held from December, '49, to June, 1851." Handwritten on back: "Photo taken day before building was torn down, 1853." Negative, nos. 19,271 and 26,687 (4 x 5 in.); also have second copy of the photo which on the back lists the names of six of the people posed in front of the church, accession no. 2008-1090.
