Description
This picture, taken by Bill Mahan in 1985, is of the Swanston Memorial Fountain in William Land Park. This fountain represents Charles Swanston, a wealthy landowner and prominent businessman in Sacramento. He owned over 200-acres of cattle grazing land just north of Sacramento and operated a successful meat packing company. The memorial was made in his honor by his son, George Swanston, and was commissioned to Ralph Stackpole, who presented the completed work to the City of Sacramento on June 18, 1926.
