På en ferie traf hun Hazel Platts, og sammen vendte de tilbage til Bongaigaon. Efter 9 år i Assam rejste de til Calcutta for at indgå i det store arbejdsfællesskab omkring St. Pauls Domkirke, som pga. store flygtningeproblemer i området havde startet et nødhjælpsarbejde

Cathedral Relief Service (CRS), Calcutta. Nurse Elly Binderup , from 1951-82 sent by Danish Santal Mission to North India, as District missionary to the Boro/Bodo people at Bongaigaon, Assam. On a vacation she met with Hazel Platts, and together they returned to Bongaigaon. After 9 years in Assam, they travelled to Calcutta to be part of the Relief Aid at St. Paul's Cathedral - started due to serious refugee problems in the area.
