Description
2018-2098. Bust-length portrait. Born Betsey Bonehill in England in 1855, she performed in English musical hall and American vaudeville as singing comedienne and male impersonator. Played in local pantomimes, did Irish clog dancing, coon singing (songs in loud voice) and coster songs in England. Brought to America by vaudeville pioneer Tony Pastor. Married her second husband, American William Smith (Seeley); purchased farm, Deer Hill, on Long Island. Toured all over world. Died of cancer in 1901.
