Description
Photograph of a view of the dirt road in front of the Hotel Metropole in Avalon, 1901. The three-story hotel can be seen at right. It is a wooden building with a wide covered porch and a covered balcony. Several large plants and bushes decorate a grassy area in front of the building. A low, light-colored fence around the yard is made of whale jaw bones. A wide dirt street can be seen at left, and a collection of buildings is visible in the background at left. Several pedestrians are walking in the street. A line of tall hills can be seen in the distance. The hotel was destroyed by fire November 1915.
