Boat in foreground is capable of carrying 60 passengers and law requires maneuvering by hand-turned propellers. Boat in rear handled in traditional rowing is smaller, needs only oars. No. 2: Boat in background pulls away from President Wilson as crew of forward boat make last minute action in preparing boat to leave. Note man in bow fends lifeboat away from liner to prevent damage. No. 3: Forward lifeboat gets under way as hand-rowed lifeboat looms up in rear. No. 4: This is why lifeboat drills are required. Men are climbing back aboard by ladder because faulty winch refused to lift boat shown in water to the deck after drill was completed. Winch was repaired and tested before ship could sail".
