Two unidentified people chat at the steps of the Watercourt at California Plaza, as the afternoon sun casts their shadows, along that of a barren tree, on the sidewalk. The Watercourt Performance Plaza was designed by WET Design with collaboration from Arthur Erickson Architects. Developed to be used for a variety of functions, whether it is to accompany live performances, or to serve as its own choreographed show of individually controlled columns of pulsating water. The Watercourt, located inside the California Plaza, shares the space with two office buildings (42 and 55 stories), numerous retail amenities, the 453-room Omni Los Angeles Hotel, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Colburn School of Performing Art, and the 150-unit Museum Tower apartments.
