Tree in center with dead top. Below dead top some original branches and below them a mass of fire-type limbs. 1/2 mile north of Bear Creek in Redwood Highway. Tree #1713, 0.2 mi. south of forest edge, south of Pepperwood. Tree has presented this appearance several years and injury probably dates back over 15 years to time Highway was built. Tree stands at edge of road. Side nearest road heavily scarred. Nearly half of circumference bears road building and fire scars, but tree is not hollow. Apparently formerly quite sound. Diameter at breast height 8'. Termites have attacked exposed wood in butt. Compare with #7110, taken 9-12-42. July 1935, E.F
