Description
The Western Addition Community Organization (WACO) was formed in 1968 by concerned citizens responding to the struggles and injustices being brought upon their neighborhoods through urban renewal efforts by the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. WACO held annual conventions, and this audio recording is of one that occurred in 1970 at Sacred Heart Church in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood. Segments 2 and 3 are a partial recording of the second annual Conference on Religion and Race held at Temple Sherith Israel, San Francisco (date unknown). Speakers are Bay Area religious and lay individuals speaking on the Vietnam War, racial injustice and poverty.
