Description
Portrait of La Cholla Martina (Martina Espinoza), who aided the bandelero Juan Flores to kill Sheriff Barton and posse and to assassinate the Jewish merchant Jorge Pffergerdt in San Juan Capistrano in 1857, ca.1907. An elderly woman in a long dress and cloak stands in the foreground, holding a cane with her right hand, with a shawl tied around her bronzed head. Behind her, a two-story home can be seen beyond the unpaved ground.
