Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated July 18, 1961 partially reads, "A 14-year-old Encino boy, playing 'army' with five friends, was shot and killed Monday night by a neighbor who told police he mistook the boy for a 'wild animal.' James Johnson, 4433 Cornett Dr., was pronounced dead on arrival at Northridge Receiving Hospital. Raynor Winward, who shot the youth outside his home at 17655 Belinda St., was booked on suspicion of murder at West Valley jail."
