Description
447 W Banana (Hillcrest) built for J.I. Case "Among the most attractive homes in Monrovia is that of J.B. Harris, which he purchased three years ago. The house was built by the late J.I. Case of Racine, Wis., for a winter home. It is a commodious house of ten rooms, at the corner of Banana and Mayflower avenues, and is surrounded by a great variety of flowers and tropical plants. His orchard consists of ten acres, mostly planted in oranges and lemons. The place has a large reservoir and a private water supply. Mr. Harris has followed railroad building most of his life, in Cuba, Guatamala, and Nicaragua, as well as on the Pacific Coast. He constructed what has already been completed of the Nicaragua canal, and was one of the original company. After living in different countries, Mr. Harris selected Monrovia as the choicest spot for a home." Monrovia Messenger Souvenir Edition 1897.
