The sand was secured when the federal government dredged out the main channel of Los Angeles Harbor five years earlier, deepening it from 30 to 35 feet. Crowds have have crowded Cabrillo Beach outside the Boat House (background) and the pier at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. Home are visible on the hillside in the background.
