Description
Loyalist mural, Hopewell Avenue, Lower Shankill, West Belfast, 2000. Mural commemorates Stevie McCrea, killed by IPLO (Irish People's Liberation Organisation -breakaway group from INLA) in 1989; mural depicts Red Hand Commando flags and insignia (RHC - a small group closely associated with the Ulster Volunteer Force), over memorial, flanked by two armed RHC volunteers (who appear in the form of regular soldiers); inscription to the right: 'For he shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary him, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember him' (poem by WW1 poet Laurence Binyon); visible to the right is Crumlin Road jail.
