Description
This image was originally part of a California State Library photographic history project documenting the daily lives and historical, political, and cultural contributions of California's diverse communities. On June 12, 1999, Long Beach residents donated to the Long Beach Public Library 398 family and personal photographs as part of this ongoing statewide project. Here, a little boy dressed in cowboy attire sits in the saddle of a small white pony. This is Olen Scott, Jr., on his birthday. At the time, a traveling photographer was taking pictures of children in the Carmelitos housing project. Olen's mother says that he "was not liking his birthday" on the pony. DATE NOTES: Circa 1956 noted on image back. ORIG. IMAGE: 6.5" x 9.5" B&W glossy print. NEGATIVE: No. KEYWORDS: African, Americans.
