380999 ; CORR ; 40.2 ; Thompson [sic] photo captioned Orange Cliff Canyon. Letter of Tomkins, 1952, Aug. 25: "We went down the river from Moab to near the mouth of the Green (1938, Sep. 29-Oct. 02) in tandum [sic] boats lashed together, the rear one rigged with an old Ford motor belonging to two boys hauling for an oil drilling outfit. In addition, Norman had a light two-man rowboat trailing behind, truly a strange looking outfit." [see original page for xerographic copy of remainder of letter dated 1952, Sep. 19] / Series: 185
