Photograph article dated May 30, 1962 partially reads, "Memorial Day marks the beginning of the picnic season when many families flock to parks, playgrounds, beaches and lakes to enjoy an afternoon of food, fun sun and relaxation. You may find the Ralph K. Stober family of Van Nuys having a picnic at one of the local parks almost any Sunday or holiday. 'Picnics aren't things we plan, too far ahead of time' Mrs. Stober said. 'We might wake up on a Sunday morning and decide that it's a nice day for a picnic at Fern Dell. 'I send Ralph to the store, fix a few simple things to eat, load the children, and whoever else wants to come along, in the car and we're off.'"
