Jockey Raymond York was a thoroughbred horse racing jockey who began his career in 1949 and retired in 1992; but on January 13, 2000 at the age of 66, he rode a 4-year-old gelding at Santa Anita Park, becoming the first jockey to have ridden in seven different decades. Throughout his career, York won 3,082 races. Photograph caption dated January 5, 1955 reads, "Jockeys Ray York, left, and John Longden check riding assignments in day's races at Santa Anita Park. York is to be honored at ceremonies on Thursday for alert action at Golden Gate Fields last November which probably prevented serious injury to Longden after fall from horse."
