Description
Photograph article dated November 9, 1949 partially reads, "Where does duty end and sacrifice begin? Three Valley policemen, Lt. Roy O. Miller and Patrolmen Reed Birdsall and Albert Colmus, never did find the answer. Yet a call for help during the recent Chatsworth fire almost brought disaster to the patrolmen and anxious moments to the watch commander. It all started about 5 o'clock in the morning. The out-of-control blaze unexpectedly swept into Dalton Canyon, a populated section of the flaming area. The residents there had gone to sleep, confident firefighters would keep them from harm, but ignorant of nature's whims which could bring disaster with ever so slightly shifting winds. The telephone rang in Lieutenant Miller's office. Crisply, a fire official called for aid." Pictured, left to right, Lt. R. O. Miller, Patrolman Reed Birdsall, and Patrolman Albert Colmus.
