Description
Crypt in Old Cairo where tradition says the Holy family lived. This area of the church is sometimes inaccessible (as shown here) due to subterranean water. This crypt, which is underneath the present-day sanctuary, was the original sanctuary of the church and became the crypt when the larger church was built overhead. The crypt measures six meters long by five meters wide, and is 2.5 meters high.
