Description
Photograph of a lithograph depicting Junipero Serra surrounded by a congregation of Indians, showing Spanish text below, [s.d.]. The Franciscan priest is shown at center, with what is either a potato or a rock by his side in his right hand, and a crucifix curled toward himself in his left. He is dressed in his friar's habit, surrounded by apparently adoring Indians and Caucasians alike. A cup stands at his feet to the left, in which a snake is curled. A human skull and a chain are also at his feet. The text below the image begins: "V.R. Del V.P.F. Junipero Serra / hijo de lea Sra. Prova. De N.P.S. [...]".
