An exterior view of the Playa de Ensenada hotel and casino, one of whose owners is Jack Dempsey. An arched colonnade borders a patio with palms, terra cota pots and tile decoration. Photo caption reads: "View of portion of front of the exotic new $2,000,000 hotel and casino Play de Ensenada, the formal opening of which will occur on Halloween when an inaugural Hollywood house party will be held, with famous screen stars and other personalities attending. This hotel is the newest, and by many declared the most elaborate and beautiful, of Mexican resorts comprising the West's new Gold Coast. A famous Mexican artist, Rames Martinez, has executed for the hotel a series of murals which connoisseurs declare classics of modern art. He has also utilized a circular stairway off the casino as a cyclorama representing religious scenes -- his little church, he calls it, and recommends it to casino winners as well as losers." Photo dated: Oct. 28, 1930.
