Description
This Aug. 13, 1929, photograph shows the Del Paso Country Club's swimming pool. The 400-by-90-foot tank, with a depth of 9 feet, was built for $13,500. Cleverly, the pool drained into a man-made lake that also acted as a hazard for the golf course's 13th hole. The 250-by-150-foot lake was dubbed Lake Morrissey in honor of the club's outgoing president, E.J. Morrissey. The dirt that was excavated to build the pool was used to dam up a swale that ran by the 13th hole. The lake was then populated with mosquito fish to minimize the number of insects.
