Description
Heavy white cotton lawn woven in a cross-bar pattern, with square, ruffle-edged, yoke made of white cotton woven with white polka dots. Standing collar in plain white cotton. Watteau-style pleating on the back, loose gathers across the front, self-fabric belt ties across the front to keep the front closed. Fitted inner bodice lining fastens with modern plastic buttons down to the waist. Sleeve seam is very high on the shoulder; sleeves have small puffs at the top but are fitted down to the wrist. Shoulder seam is right on top of the shoulder instead of set back behind the shoulder a few inches, which would be usual for the period. Buttonholes hand-done; all other stitching by machine. Modern buttons and shoulder seam hint that this might be a well-made reproduction and not an original Victorian piece!
