The Antiphonary (or Antiphonal) is a book containing all portions of the Divine Office which were sung antiphonally by choir. In most cases, these books were quite large, so as to be seen by the entire choir. This particular example, however, was meant to be used by an individual during a procession, which would preclude a book of great size."
