This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written to left of photo: "Polytechnic High School Lincoln Way near 1st Ave. 1908." Photo shows the simple, two-story wooden buildings of the Polytechnic High School, actually on the south side of Frederick Street beweeen 1st Avenue and Willard. A horse-drawn cart is parked at the entrance, with two men standing alongside. The Eucalyptus trees of Parnassus Heights can be seen in the background. In the foreground, the tracks and overhead of what was then the United Railroads' Ellis and Ocean line can be seen curving from Frederick Street into H Street (later Lincoln Way) on their way to the beach.
