Description
Connie and Chang Rae begin the interview discussing the context of the novel and the role of fate in the characters’ lives. They move on to talk about how the book is not a book about the Korean War, per se, but about mass conflict in general, and the effect of war on individuals. Connie and Chang Rae proceed to talk about how he develops his characters, and Connie has Chang Rae read a passage from the book before they reflect on one of the novel’s theme concerning the will to live and how the characters are motivated to survive. Chang Rae then discusses what inspired him to write the book, and the significance of trauma in the novel. Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
